A Sit-Up Alternative - the Head Levitation Crunch

As mentioned in the previous post the sit-up is not recommended for low back rehabilitation or for long-term low back health.
Instead the head levitation crunch with the head raised and inch off the floor, chin not tucked, and hands under the low back to maintain a neutral spine, ie the spine is not flattened to the floor, and with one leg bent, engages the core muscles and abs without the repetitive forward flexing of the spine of sit-ups.
Note the position below is an advanced position in that the elbows are also raised off the floor - for a beginner's head levitation crunch keep the elbows on the floor.

Please do not try exercises in the images provided or those described anywhere on this website without first completing your PAR-Q and Client Screening Questionnaire to ensure you don't have any 'red flags', we have confirmed that you are able to engage in an exercise programme and that we can ensure that they are appropriate for you and that your technique is correct.
We look forward to hearing from you, discussing the specific low back pain you are experiencing and designing an exercise programme that aims to alleviate your discomfort and enables you to manage your low back condition with confidence.
