Repetitive forward flexing of the spine that occurs when doing the sit-up is not recommended for those with low back pain even though people believe in it for strengthening the abs and as a core exercise. Instead research has demonstrated that the head levitation crunch conducted with the correct technique and form also strengthens the abs to help stabilise the spine, whilst maintaining a neutral spine position - ie there is no forward flexing of the spine.

Please contact me for further guidance on the correct technique and to discuss how we can help alleviate any low back pain you may have and strengthen your core to support your spine without putting it under unnecessary load.
